OptiLight: Potential Risks And Side Effects

OptiLight by Lumenis is a safe, non-invasive and comfortable way of effectively treating dry eye syndrome. Although this intense pulsed light therapy is FDA-approved, it isn’t suitable for everyone. And just like any other medical treatment, it has some potential risks and side effects.

Your Norwalk Vision Dry Eye Center optometrist will happily discuss your eligibility for OptiLight treatments and review any relevant risks. To learn more about OptiLight, call us today.

Is OptiLight Suitable for Everyone?

While OptiLight has helped numerous people with dry eye syndrome, it isn’t recommended for patients who have experienced any of the following in the eye area:

  • Previous ocular or eyelid surgery
  • Neuro-paralysis within the prior 6 months
  • Uncontrolled eye disorders
  • Precancerous lesions, skin cancer or pigmented lesions
  • Recent Eye infections
  • Uncontrolled immunosuppressive diseases
  • History of rashes or cold sores near the eyes
  • Used photosensitive medications within 3 months prior
  • Recent radiation therapy to the neck or head
  • Recent chemotherapy
  • History of seizures, epilepsy or migraines

What Are the Potential Risks and Side Effects of OptiLight?

Potential risks and side effects of OptiLight include pain or discomfort, damage to your skin’s natural texture, a change of pigmentation, fragile skin, bruising, scarring, swelling, burns, itchy skin and dry skin.

During your dry eye consultation, your Norwalk Vision Dry Eye Center optometrist will discuss your risk factors and whether or not OptiLight is the right choice for your condition.

If OptiLight is recommended for you, you’ll begin treatment and be on your way to long-lasting relief and healing.
